My name is Loretta Callens, founder and director of "Sentimental Journey" Improving Lives Through Music.
Many lower and fixed income communities are limited to providing live music entertainment once a month or less. Many of these rely on volunteer entertainers and musicians, and while these are always welcome, they tend to be random and inconsistent in their scheduling. Providing residents with consistent, reliable, and well-practiced musicians improves the quality of residential life. Structured and well planned activities give people, who are often confined indoors, something to look forward to during the week.
Thanks to our 2012 campaign contributors and sponsors, Sentimental Journey provided 17 shows in east and central Texas over the last year.
Sentimental Journey's musician team member's songbooks are filled with classics geared toward taking the listener on a sentimental journey.
What a blessing it is to see the delight on residents faces and hear their voices join in with ours as we sing tunes from the past. To see the light in the eyes of an Alzheimer patient as they hear a familiar song, remember the words and sing along. To know we have taken the residents on a Sentimental Journey.
At the moment we have musicians on our team in East, South and Central Texas. We plan to encompass other areas and states as musicians sign up and funding grows.Donations accepted securely through Paypal.com.
